ATTENTION IP RELAY AND VRS USERS!
GET A TEN-DIGIT NUMBER!
REGISTER NOW! TRANSITION DATE IS NOVEMBER 12!

If you use or plan to use IP Relay or VRS, you must get a ten-digit telephone number as soon as possible. To get a ten-digit number, you need to register with your preferred IP Relay or VRS provider. After November 12, 2009, your IP Relay and VRS calls other than 911 calls will not be completed unless you have registered with a provider. Contact your preferred IP Relay or VRS provider today to avoid any last-minute rush to register.

The registration process is easy and simple. You only need to provide basic information such as your name and the address from which you will be making IP Relay or VRS calls. That address is your “Registered Location.”

If you use both IP Relay and VRS, you must register and obtain a separate ten-digit number for each. If you have more than one IP Relay or VRS device, you will likely have to obtain a separate ten-digit number for each device.

Ten-Digit Numbers Allow Emergency Help to Find You

You need to register so that your IP Relay or VRS provider can route your 911 calls to a 911 call center that can most quickly address your emergency. Proper handling of 911 calls is one of the main reasons the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) decided to require ten-digit numbers for IP Relay and VRS users. Be sure to update your Registered Location with your provider when you change the location from which you are using the relay service.

How Your Service Will Work

Registration will not change the way you normally place an IP Relay or VRS call with any provider. You will still be able to place a call through an alternate IP Relay or VRS provider by going to that provider’s Internet address or Web site with your videophone or computer. You can also switch to a new preferred provider at any time and use your ten-digit telephone number with your new preferred provider. Having a ten-digit number will make it much easier for a voice telephone user to call you.
