Noting that it is encouraged that BellSouth meets more than 6 items on the 14-point "competitive checklist," the Commision denied Bellsouth's second application to provide long distance service in Louisiana and provided further guidance as to what the company must do to comply with the statute in areas where the application fell short. DEPLOYMENT OF WIRELINE SERVICES OFFERING ADVANCED TELECOMMUNICATIONS CAPABILITY. Denied the United States Telephone Association's request for an extension of the October 16, 1998, date for filing reply comments in CC Docket 98-147, NPRM released 8/7/98, proposing measures to promote the deployment of advanced services in a competitive manner by both incumbent local exchange carriers and new entrants. Dkt No.: CC- 98-147. Action by Chief, Policy and Program Planning Division. Adopted: October 13, 1998. by Order. (DA No. 98-2056). APPLICATION OF BELLSOUTH CORPORATION, BELLSOUTH TELECOMMUNICATIONS, INC., AND BELLSOUTH LONG DISTANCE, INC., FOR PROVISION OF IN-REGION, INTERLATA SERVICES IN LOUISIANA. Noting that it is encouraged that BellSouth meets more than 6 items on the 14-point "competitive checklist," the Commision denied Bellsouth's second application to provide long distance service in Louisiana and provided further guidance as to what the company must do to comply with the statute in areas where the application fell short. Commission ruled that BellSouth need only certify in any future application for Louisiana that it still satisfies the requirements of the checklist items that it has met in this application, thus streamlining the authorization process. Concluded that competition from broadband PCS providers could form the basis for a successful application to provide in-region long distance service. Dkt No.: CC- 98-121. Action by the Commission. Adopted: October 13, 1998. by MO&O. (FCC No. 98-271). CCB Internet URL: https://www.fcc.gov/Bureaus/Common_Carrier/Orders/1998/fcc98271.pdf
