Citizens Telecommunications Company of North Dakota was created when Citizens purchased a number of exchanges from Qwest Corporation on 10/31/2000 in North Dakota. The exchanges that were purchased from Qwest Corporation created a new operating company/study areas (CTND). On 4/01/2003 Citizens Communications sold the remaining telephone access lines (approximately 11,000) of Citizens Telecommunications Company of North Dakota, which consisted of a number of exchanges. These exchanges were sold to Reservation Telephone Cooperative and Missouri Valley Communications, Inc.
