On April 4, 2024, FCC Chairwoman Rosenworcel announced the tentative agenda for the April 2024 Open Meeting scheduled for 10:30 am EST on Thursday, April 25, 2024.  The meeting will be held in the Commission Meeting Room, 45 L Street N.E., Washington, D.C  20554.  The FCC meeting is also available online, and streamed live with open captioning at www.fcc.gov/live.

As part of the agenda, the Commission will consider a draft Declaratory Ruling, Order, Report and Order, and Order on Reconsideration (Order) that would restore Net Neutrality and bring back a national standard for broadband reliability, security, and consumer protection.  If adopted, the Chairwoman’s proposal would ensure that broadband services are treated as an essential resource deserving of FCC oversight under Title II authority.

Regarding accessibility for individuals with disabilities, the Order would enhance the FCC’s authority to:

  • Better safeguard access to IP-based telecommunications relay services (TRS);
  • Ensure that individuals with disabilities can communicate using IP-based services such as video relay service; and
  • Ensure that emergency communications by persons with disabilities are not interrupted or degraded.

Finally, the Commission forbears from (that is, refrains from) immediately applying new TRS Fund contribution requirements to BIAS providers, but reserves the ability to require such contributions in the event future developments necessitate such action.
