Note: Data are only available for reporting years 1998 through 2007. Effective 09/06/2008, subsequent years' data are no longer reported. |
Purpose: This report provides a view over time of the percent metallic facilities for cable facilities, and their related investment and expense dollars, as well as the ratios of expenses to investments, for those telephone companies required to file the ARMIS 43-02 report, i.e., Verizon, SBC, Qwest and BellSouth. Data are available for several user-selectable levels of aggregation, and are displayed by year under the current corporate structures, for the most recent 10-year period.
Source: ARMIS 43-08, Table I.A., Row 910 Total, Columns (d) Sheath Km of Metallic Aerial Cable, (e) Sheath Km of Fiber Aerial Cable, (f) Sheath Km of Metallic Underground Cable, (g) Sheath Km of Fiber Underground Cable, (h) Sheath Km of Metallic Buried Cable, (i) Sheath Km of Fiber Buried Cable, and ARMIS 43-02, Table I-1, Column (b), Rows 6421 Aerial Cable (expense), 6422 Underground Cable (expense), 6423 Buried Cable (expense), and Table B-1, Column (af), Rows 2421 Aerial Cable (investment), 2422 Underground Cable (investment), and 2423 Buried Cable (investment).
Content: Results may be selected and displayed for the following aggregations:
· Large ILEC Region: AT&T, Qwest, and Verizon - results for each of these three companies (based on combined study areas for each of the three), plus the combined results of all threecompanies.
· Large ILEC Holding Company: Results for each of the eight large ILEC holding companies (BellSouth, Qwest, Southwestern Bell, Pacific Telesis, Southern New England, Ameritech, Verizon-Bell Atlantic, Verizon-GTE), plus the combined results of all eight holding companies.
· Large ILECs: Results for each large ILEC operating company, plus the combined results of all large ILEC operating companies.
Method:all investment and expense numbers from the ARMIS 43-03 are multiplied by 1000, prior to performing other operations, as described below. Also, for Verizon California (GTGC), calculations are performed only for years 1996 and later. For GTE of the Midwest dba Verizon Midwest (GTMD), calculations are performed only for years 1993 and later. Also, ARMIS Report data for companies who have not filed any ARMIS data more recently than the fifth year preceding the current year are not available in the system, i.e., if the last year in which a company filed ARMIS data is 2002 or earlier, then no ARMIS data for that company is in the system.
The Percent Metallic Facilities is calculated from the 43-08, Table I.A, row 910, as follows: for Aerial Cable, divide column (d) by the sum of columns (d) and (e); for Underground Cable, divide column (f) by the sum of columns (f) and (g); for Buried Cable, divide column (h) by the sum of columns (h) and (I); for Total Cable, divide the sum of columns (d), (f), and (h) by the sum of columns (d) through (i).
The Cable Investment is calculated as follows: divide the investment values from the 43-02, Table B-1 rows, by the sheath kilometer values from the 43-08, Table I.A. columns: for Aerial Cable, divide row 2421 by the sum of columns (d) and (e); for Underground Cable, divide row 2422 by the sum of columns (f) and (g); for Buried Cable, divide row 2423 by the sum of columns (h) and (i); for Total Cable, divide the sum of rows 2421, 2422, 2423, by the sum of columns (d) through (i), and round to the nearest dollar.
The Cable Expense is calculated as follows: divide the expense values from the 43-02, Table I-1 rows, by the sheath kilometer values from the 43-08, Table I.A. columns: for Aerial Cable, divide row 6421 by the sum of columns(d) and (e); for Underground Cable, divide row 6422 by the sum of columns (f) and (g); for Buried Cable, divide row 6423 by the sum of columns (h) and (i); for Total Cable, divide the sum of rows 6421, 6422, 6423, by the sum of columns (d) through (i) , and round to the nearest dollar.
The expense to investment ratio is calculated as follows: divide the expense values from the 43-02, Table I-1, rows 6421, 6422, and 6423 by the Table B-1 investment values in rows 2421, 2422, and 2423, respectively. Values are expressed in percent rounded to the nearest tenth.
