“This page is a digitally archived AccessInfo Announcement”

On August 24, 2017, the FCC’s Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau granted TracFone Wireless, Inc. (TracFone), a reseller of commercial mobile radio service (CMRS), a temporary, limited waiver of the Commission’s rules requiring support for TTY technology over IP-based wireless services.

As a condition to receiving the waiver, TracFone must comply with the following:

  • Notifying consumers that their IP-based wireless services will not support TTY technology for calls to 911
  • Providing consumers with information about alternative text-based accessibility solutions

The waiver expires on December 31, 2017.
