On August 1, 2014, the FCC released a Public Notice asking for comments about the National Deaf- Blind Equipment Distribution Program (NDBEDP).
The NDBEDP is a program that the FCC established as directed by the Twenty-First Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act of 2010 (CVAA). The NDBEDP provides funding support for the distribution of equipment needed to access telecommunications, advanced communications services, and the Internet to low-income individuals who are deaf-blind. The NDBEDP has been operating as a pilot program since July 1, 2012. The rules governing the pilot program will expire on June 30, 2015.
In this Public Notice, the FCC invites the public to provide feedback on ways that the FCC can make the NDBEDP more effective and more efficient. This feedback will help the FCC establish rules to continue the NDBEDP as a permanent program when the pilot program ends.
