As the Acting Chief of Staff for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC or Commission), Office of Inspector General (OIG), Mr. Meklir coordinates, prepares for, and attends high-level meetings and briefings with Commission leadership, Congress, OMB, GAO, and others, and advises the Inspector General on Congressional and stakeholder outreach. He also leads OIG teams on several office-wide priorities, cross-agency projects, and initiatives. Mr. Meklir has approximately 19 years of federal work experience and another approximate 5 years in public sector management consulting. Prior to joining FCC OIG, Mr. Meklir served as a senior advisor at the Social Security Administration Office of Inspector General (SSA OIG) where he designed and implemented OIG-wide programs, policies, and procedures, and helped lead the OIG’s semiannual reporting and congressional and intergovernmental affairs.   

Prior to joining SSA OIG, he was an Audit Director for about a decade with the Special Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (SIGTARP), uncovering waste and abuse in the U.S. Department of Treasury’s programs to address the 2008 U.S. financial crisis. In that role, he led numerous executive-level initiatives, managed relationships with external stakeholders, and directed audit and evaluation teams. Earlier in his federal career, he worked as a Special Assistant to the Chief Managing Officer at the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation, advising executives on priorities and key decisions in budgeting, staffing, contracting, and strategic planning. He also scored legislation and projected federal spending at the Congressional Budget Office. In the private sector, Mr. Meklir served myriad federal, state, and local government clients as a senior consultant at a large accounting and management consulting firm in the early 2000s.  

Mr. Meklir holds a Master of Public Policy degree from The American University and a Bachelor of Political Science degree from Michigan State University.
