“This page is a digitally archived AccessInfo Announcement”

This Thursday, September 12, 2013, the FCC's Accessibility & Innovation Initiative will host Dr. Yevgen Borodin as part of an ongoing Speaker Series. Dr. Borodin is known for his research in the field of computational methods and non‐ visual interfaces for improving Web accessibility. His presentation, from 10 AM to 12 noon, is called "Improving Accessibility for the General Public."

Additionally, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, the event will feature demonstrations of accessible technology solutions related to topics addressed in the morning’s presentation. The morning presentation and afternoon demos will occur in the Commission Meeting Room and Technology Experience Center, respectively, located at FCC headquarters – 445 12th St. SW in Washington, DC.

The afternoon demos will show how a smartphone can scan printed material into electronic text, how a web‐browsing assistant can extract news articles for later reading, and how cloud computing can enhance accessibility for

all. Beginning at 1:00 PM, the exhibitors will each give their 10 minute demos consecutively. Each of the exhibits will then remain at the Technology Experience Center until 3 PM for individual visitors to experience on their own.

The event is open to the public, and we encourage in‐person attendance to see first‐hand the demos on site, and for the added benefits of professional networking. The morning presentation, but not the afternoon demos, will be webcast.
