On November 16, 2022, the FCC announced the panels and panelists for its November 17, 2022 hearing on the impact of Hurricanes Fiona and Ian on communications and the recovery effort. The hearing, which will explore lessons learned from the hurricanes, will focus largely on coordination between the communications and power sectors in response to these storms and inform Commission actions to promote the availability of critical communications services following disasters, including accessibility for people with disabilities.
The field hearing will follow the Commission’s November Open Commission Meeting on Thursday, November 17, 2022. The Open Meeting begins at 10:30 a.m. EDT, and the field hearing will start around 11:30 a.m. EDT. The event will be open to the public and streamed via live feed from the FCC’s webpage at www.fcc.gov/live and on the FCC’s YouTube channel. Open captioning and an online ASL interpreter will be provided for the event.
Additional information about participants and a video recording of the hearing will be updated and archived online at www.fcc.gov/hearing-impact-communications-hurricanes-fiona-and-ian. Stakeholders and members of the public are invited to share their perspectives on these topics in the form of written statements via filing with the Commission’s Electronic Comment Filing System (ECFS) in PS Docket No. 21-346 and 15-80 and ET Docket No. 04-35, either at www.fcc.gov/ecfs or by using the Commission’s express comment filing portal at www.fcc.gov/ecfs/filings/express. Written statements of the panelists and the recording of the hearing will be made part of the public record in these dockets.
Public Attendance – The hearing is scheduled to commence following the Open Meeting in the Commission Meeting Room of the Federal Communications Commission, 45 L Street, N.E., Washington, D.C. While the Open Meeting and hearing are open to the public, the FCC headquarters building is not open access, and all guests must check in with and be screened by FCC security at the main entrance on L Street. Attendees at the Open Meeting and hearing will not be required to have an appointment but must otherwise comply with protocols outlined at: https://www.fcc.gov/visit.
