Cybersecurity Forum: Safeguarding Children and Families on the Internet
The Consumer Affairs and Outreach Division (CAOD) hosted a forum on November 12, 2013 in recognition of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (October 1 – 31, 2013) and National Protect Your Identity Week (October 20 – 26, 2013).
In a two-panel format, the forum explored the issues of Cybersecurity and Safeguarding Children and Families on the Internet. The first panel featured subject matter experts who discussed and identified cybersecurity risks faced by parents and guardians when trying to protect their children online. Panelists also discussed the importance of preventing risky online behaviors and provided tips on how to protect children from these risks.
A second panel addressed technological advancements in cybersecurity for consumers, especially as they relate to social media, mobile security and preventing identity theft. A portion of the panel discussion was dedicated to the industry's outreach and education efforts on topics such as securing mobile devices, avoiding potential risk factors, and ensuring the security of applications (apps) on mobile devices, such as those related to mobile wallets.
