Dr. Andy Southerland, Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of Virginia, discusses cutting edge telestroke technologies during the Connect2HealthFCC Beyond the Beltway event at the University of Virginia Center for Telehealth in November 2014.

On November 18, 2014, the Connect2HealthFCC Task Force and the University of Virginia Center for Telehealth discussed and showcased how broadband and new technologies are helping improve healthcare access, especially in rural and underserved areas. The half-day event also included a demonstration of lifesaving technology and explored the broader social and economic benefits of broadband-enabled healthcare.

The event featured FCC Commissioner Mignon Clyburn, senior executives from the University of Virginia Health System, Virginia state officials, and technology partners. Commissioner Clyburn delivered Opening Remarks. Additionally, leadership from the University demonstrated their cutting-edge telemedicine program and described the critical role of FCC Rural Health Care funding.
