TTY-based TRS involves the use of Text Telephones (TTYs). TTYs use keyboards for typing messages and screens for displaying messages. The text is read on either (or both) a display screen or a paper printout. TTYs connect to a standard phone line. TTY-based TRS allows a TTY user and a voice caller to connected using a communication assistant (CA). The CA relays the call between the parties by speaking what a text user types, and typing what a voice telephone user speaks.
