Chart 4: The ratio of weighted median speeds (upload and download) to advertised speed for each ISP

Description

This chart shows the ratio in September 2020 of the actual speeds experienced by an ISP's subscribers to that ISP's advertised speed. This ratio is shown as a percentage, with the 100% rate highlighted.

Why We Provide It

This chart provides an overview of how accurately a service provider is able to match its consumer's realized download and upload speeds to the advertised speed.

Description

Presents packet loss for each ISP, with the ISPs grouped under their specific technologies (i.e, DSL, Cable and Fiber).

Why We Provide It

This chart provides a comparison of average packet loss suffered by different ISPs. Packet loss affects the performance of applications such as internet phone calls, video chat, some online multiplayer games and video streaming.

The consistency of speed performance, in addition to the median performance and the complementary cumulative distribution function, provides a better insight into how consistent the service provider's performance is both over the whole period of time and over the whole number of panelists.
